Katie had always dreamed about getting married at her parent’s house, so that’s exactly what she did. “It is a beautiful place that holds so many wonderful memories from my childhood, our engagement, and now our wedding,” she says. We asked the bride more about the big day. I wish…that I had stopped decorating and started getting ready sooner. I think that one of the hard things about getting married at home and doing so much myself was that there was always one more thing that I could do. I didn’t realize…that picking out my dress would be so easy. I am well known for my indecisiveness, but went into Andrea’s Bridal with a good idea of what I wanted. As soon as my best friend pulled it from the rack and I put it on I knew I wanted to get married in it. The owner, Julia, worked with my budged and made the dress of my dreams within reach. After trying on only four dresses I had made my choice, and everyone was shocked. One of my favorite moments was…seeing each other for the first time as I walked down the aisle. I really liked…that the wedding was truly a family affair. I am very close to my family, and it was so special to have the people that I love most with me along the way. My older sister designed the save-the-dates, invitations, and programs. One of my brothers built a gorgeous altar from trees and salvaged wood. My other brother manicured the extensive lawns meticulously. My mom and younger sister baked the beautiful bundt cakes. My dad cut log accents and polished his antique tractors.To that end, she earned an associate’s degree from the University of Maine at Augusta’s music program and continued to pursue her music career while raising a family. She sang in several local bands and wrote her first song, “Miriam’s Song,” while her daughter was taking a an afternoon nap. One of her songs was included on a WCLZ (Maine radio station) homegrown CD and she was hired to sing in a Maine tourism advertisement.
